life drawing numero seis

Still progressing, but slowly. The model this week had never modeled before. . . and, though she was a great sport, it kind of showed in the someone limited variety of poses she took. Or, you know, I just didn't have my drawing game on. Whichever. (There's a whole lot of games I don't seem to have on this week, including my "timely blogging" game. . . erk.)

Okay warmups. . .
This sketch was pretty homely, I thought. I kept making her stumpier and thicker than she really was.

duh duh de duh . . life drawing #5!

My spacebar is sticking and it irritates the hell out of me.

Got my Glasgow application off today. . . that means I have ONE LEFT. Delft, I'm looking at you.

In the meantime, life drawing. Sadly I've just about killed my china markers; I think I put a little too much pressure on the tip when I draw. . . there were no horrific driving adventures this time around, although I did end up getting off I-29 and driving on what was 183 to avoid a tailgater, where I narrowly avoided hitting a beaver. Ah, Iowa.

2-minute warmups. Obviously I need to draw faster.

More shading tonight equals. . . less finished. (I like the model's head in this one, but it's kinda too big in proportion I think.)

life drawing #3

Life drawing occurred again this week (after choosing to skip last week to avoid being killed in an avalanche of snow. Okay, I exaggerate. Slightly.) From the files of the immature, this week was a DUDE. Slightly disconcerting. Also interesting was the exhibit they had up of other attendees "best of" drawings so far. This week I decided to give charcoal another go. I'm not exactly expecting to produce any great art in this class, so I might as well utilize the chance to experiment. Sadly, I realized that the brown pastels I had purchased were definitely intended for a toothier paper than the cheap-ass newsprint I have been working on. :(

life drawing #2. . .

Missed life drawing last week because I was finishing up applications. I managed to get to Hotshops with no problem. . . sadly coming back was another story. Ugh. Damn you Old Market and your damn one-way streets and your damn streets that don't go through and your damn shitty signage.

Without further ado. . .

life drawing

There's a life drawing class once a week at the Hot Shops in Omaha. As I have been sort of a hermit for a while, and as I need some incentive (always!) to keep drawing, I signed up for it. The first night was last night; luckily the snow let up for a bit so the drive was more or less okay. I had only done life drawing once before (hey, 4.102) so I sorta kinda knew what to expect but not really. It was quite a big room (the Hot Shops are in repurposed warehouses close to the river in Omaha); the model posed on a platform in the center of the room, with theater-ish lighting. The teacher provided chairs and easels. I, sadly, left most of my paper in Fenway House (pain in the butt to mail home), so I took the largest sketchbook I had, which is about 10" x 8". Hopefully this weekend brings a trip to Blick (as well as a swing by the Joslyn.) Luckily I did keep most of my drawing supplies, so I've got enough charcoal, china marker, soft lead pencil, etc. to last me for at least a few sessions.

We did five two-minute poses to warm up (didn't upload any of those, they sucked), two ten-minute poses, two twenty-five minute poses, and one forty-minute pose. I think I did reasonably well, but I'm looking forward to what improvement the next few sessions might bring.

So, without further ado, the "best of."
